Financial Insights & Updates - May 2021
Welcome to the May edition of Financial Insights and Updates.
This month marks the beginning of a four-part monthly video series on the future of retirement presented by the ABC’s Alan Kohler.
During the last 18 months Australians have faced natural disasters, unemployment and work disruption on a scale that’s unprecedented in modern times. It’s no surprise that the future prospect of retirement hasn’t been front of mind for many. But there comes a time when our retirement plans become a reality. How big is the nest egg you need to retire comfortably, and what’s the best way to get there?
Closely related to much of the content in this video series is the report from the 2020–21 federal Budget, called - Your Future, Your Super. You can download and read a copy of this report from this newsletter.
The Your Future, Your Super measure has been introduced into Parliament and referred to the Senate Economics Committee.
The intent of this proposed measure is to:
- stop the creation of unintended multiple superannuation accounts for employees
- address underperformance in superannuation
- make it easier for members to choose a well-performing product
- increase accountability and transparency from superannuation providers.
The proposed measures are intended to apply from 1 July 2021 although at the time of writing the law has yet to receive royal assent.
This month we have also included an ASX 200 chart over the last 12 months which incorporates the events that have happened in the same time period. Definitely an interesting chart to have a look at.
Other articles this month worth taking note of include “How to invest for your children” and “Working from home – how to boost your next tax return”. Both are good articles to forward on to family and friends who may find the content relevant.
In signing off, please remember that we are always available to answer any questions or queries you may have.
Warm regards,
The Team at Savanna Pride
